News 12 Storm Watch Team Meteorologist Darryl Green says a winter weather advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Monday until 1 p.m. Tuesday. The wintry mix/rain occurs after midnight through 7 a.m. Winds will start picking up after midnight, gusting near 35 mph.
The primary concerns tonight are slushy snow, wet/slick roads and reduced visibility.
TIMELINE:
6 p.m. - midnight: Steady burst of moderate to heavy snow. This will be the bulk of the accumulation. Temperatures will hover near or just above freezing. The heavy burst will lower temperatures to the freezing mark, which is why we will see quick accumulations during this time.
Midnight - 3 a.m.: Snow gets a bit lighter, encouraging temperatures to warm slightly to change the snow to sleet and rain. This mix is expected along coastal neighborhoods, melting some of the accumulations but creating slippery conditions.
3 a.m. - 7 a.m.: Snow and wintry mix becomes much lighter, and intermittent. Scattered snow showers are expected, but some areas will experience a scattered drizzle, too.
7 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Lingering scattered showers (rain/snow/sleet) will taper and end. Temperatures warm into the upper-30s.
Overnight: Wet snow, sleet and rain. Lows 33.
Tuesday: Morning snow/rain. Cold, mix of sun and clouds. Highs near 42. Lows near 35.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny and chilly, increasing clouds late. Highs near 47. Lows near 40.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, mild, breezy. Chance of showers. Highs near 58. Lows near 40.
Friday: Cloudy, breezy, chilly. Chance of afternoon rain/snow showers. Highs near 44. Lows near 33.
Saturday: Morning rain/snow. Partly sunny, chilly and breezy. Highs near 42. Lows near 30.
Sunday: Sun and clouds, seasonable. Highs near 45. Lows near 34.
