Former City Council speaker comes up short in public advocate race
Former City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito came up short in her bid for the city's public advocate.
News 12's Anthony Carlo was at Mark-Viverito's watch party at the London Irish Pub in East Harlem.
Mark-Viverito conceded Tuesday night, but not before mentioning all her campaign worked for.
Mark-Viverito made history as the first woman of color to become City Council speaker in 2014. She ran on the Fix the MTA party line, looking to invest tax revenue from legalized marijuana into MTA repairs. She also told News 12 she was focused on fixing the NYCHA crisis by proposing an emergency working group.
