Companies are now demanding that workers return to the office every day, two years after the world shut down amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

But the decree may be causing workers to resign from their positions instead.

A new survey from ADP Research Institute found that 71% of workers aged 18 to 24 said they would consider looking for another job if their employer insisted that they return to the workplace full time.

The survey said that it’s not that people just want to work from home, they want more flexibility in their workday. The survey found that the people are willing to make a compromise to get it, including less money.

More than 50% of those surveyed were willing to accept a pay cut to guarantee a more flexible or hybrid work schedule, taking up to an 11% pay cut.

And despite the push from employers, people seem to be doing OK working remotely. The survey found that 64% of those working from home say they talk about career progression with their boss. That's compared to 43% of those working in the office. And two-thirds of remote workers also say that their contributions were recognized.
