Police say they have arrested a Bay Shore man for attacking another man on Bay Shore's Main Street.
Police say a man was walking on Main Street, near Third Avenue, when a man struck him in the head with a metal object and fled the scene around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday.
The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police have charged Ricardo Siguenza, 32, with assault in the second degree.
The object allegedly used in the assault was a wrench, and the prosecutor said the defendant was found with a wrench when he was arrested.
Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina said this appears to be a random attack. He said the unidentified victim, believed to be a male in his 40s, suffered “what appears to be a fractured skull, a brain bleed” and said he’s in “pretty bad shape.” The prosecutor said that while the victim is in critical condition, he is expected to recover at some point.
Siguenza’s attorney Harmon Lutzer told News 12 that, according to paperwork he received, the defendant indicated that the other man had threatened his life.
Siguenza is being held on $100,000 cash bail.
