After two years without answers, one mother says she finally has some closure to her daughter’s murder.
On Wednesday, two suspects were arrested in connection to the slaying of Brandy Odom. Odom was found dismembered in Brooklyn in 2018.
“A mother’s worst nightmare to have such a gruesome crime happen and you didn’t have any answers,” said Brandy Odom’s mother, Nicole Odom.
According to police, Odom was strangled and then her body was dismembered and disposed of in Canarsie Park.
"Everybody loved her, that's why I didn’t understand how could something like this has ever taken place, she’s not a troubled person,” said Nicole Odom.
Cory Martin and Adelle Anderson were arrested on federal charges Wednesday in connection to the killing.
They are charged with conspiring to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
According to a police and FBI investigation, the three lived together - and in the year leading up to Odom’s slaying, Martin and Anderson, posing as Odom, allegedly took out multiple life insurance policies on behalf of Brandy Odom.
They say that after Martin strangled, dismembered Odom’s body and disposed of it - Anderson, pretending to be Odom’s sister, tried to collect $200,000 in life insurance.
Court documents also revealed text messages between the two discussing the insurance policies and searches for a reciprocating saw at Home Depot were found on Martin’s phone - one he said to have later purchased.
Martin is being held in jail without bail and Anderson was released on $200,000 bond with restrictions.
