A new environmentally friendly power source option made its debut in Tarrytown on Tuesday.
Residents may notice that the Tarrytown Self Storage has solar panels on top of the building - for community use.
News 12 is told it will serve 50 homes in the surrounding area.
The site is one of more than 100 community solar projects in Westchester County, according to Sustainable Westchester.
Con Ed will still deliver power to residents, but they’ll have the option of choosing the source.
Local officials see it as a step toward sustainability for Tarrytown.
“Community solar is a fabulous thing because it helps people who want to use solar, but can’t put it on their own homes,” says customer Dean Gallea.
The Tarrytown site is full in terms of subscribers, but if residents are interested in signing up, they can visit this website.
Sunrise Solar Solutions partnered with the storage facility for the project.
