Teachers and staff at Grace Dodge Campus rallied Friday over concerns about safety.
Staff have been back in the building since Tuesday, preparing for the first day of school on Sept. 21.
However, teachers at the Grace Dodge Campus say the school is not ready to reopen.
Teachers and staff claim spaces inside the building, like the cafeteria, still doesn't have proper ventilation, despite the United Federation of Teachers inspecting the campus before staff was allowed to return.
Educators say in March this building became a COVID-19 cluster, after a teacher at Crotona International High School located within the Grace Dodge Campus tested positive for COVID-19.
Teachers, parents and advocates are expected to be gathering in front of the school today to demand the Department of Education and UFT to listen to their issues and concerns of opening the school back up in about a week.
Teacher Ally Haridopolos is among dozens of staff members who don't feel the school is ready to welcome more than 1,000 students back into the classroom.
"In person learning is much better than Remote absolutely but we have to be safe first,” says Haridopolos
Recently the teachers’ union has had another battle with the Department of Education, having to do with staff test results taking too long to get back.
