The tenants who live at Twins Parks East say they shouldn't have to spend their golden years living in their cold apartments.
They claim they have been dealing with little heat, and at times no heat, since the beginning of winter.
Like many tenants in the senior development, Queen McFarlane says she has to sleep with extra blankets and clothing during the night because her sixth floor apartment feels like a refrigerator.
Other tenants say they've been using electric heaters during the recent cold snap. They say during Monday's storm, they didn't have enough heat to keep warm in their apartments.
Councilman Fernando Cabrera joined seniors at Twin Peaks East Wednesday to demand adequate heat to the building.
Cabrera is introducing legislation that will allow these tenants to report their heat complaints to 311 instead of going through NYCHA.
He says this will hold NYCHA accountable when it fails to meet the city's heat guidelines.
