Bronx residents in Schuylerville are on edge after thieves struck vehicles in the middle of the night last week – leaving a car damaged and thousands of dollars' worth of electronics missing.
Anthony Costa says he woke up to a smashed passenger side window and items stolen from his vehicle Tuesday morning.
"I guess they must've seen in the back seat…a book bag," said Costa. "They made off like bandits."
Inside that backpack, he says there were two laptops, a Nintendo switch, and four games, all valued at $3,200. He says he usually takes his bag inside his La Salle Avenue home but decided to leave it in his car since he parked on the street a little after midnight.
Police say they are investigating the case as a grand larceny and tell News 12 that they don't have any suspects at the time.
He says it's not the first time that thieves have struck the neighborhood and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Insurance covered the cost of the window, but Costa says he still has to pay out of pocket to replace his valuables.
"I'm not leaving anything in my car anymore, that car is empty right now, I drained it," said Costa.
He tells News 12 that in light of the break-in, he would like to see more officers patrolling the neighborhood. However, he says detectives did dust for fingerprints and are combing through surveillance video.
He says he is hopeful that the burglars will be caught.
