Bill Stanton, president of the City Island Civic Association, says he has next-door neighbors who are in their 70s, 80s and 90s.
He says they now have to distance themselves from the public for their own safety during this pandemic and that he has started helping a couple of seniors on his block, but that he wanted to assist others who may be isolated and can't ask for help.

Stanton made an effort to involve his community through social media. Volunteers sign up to run errands for their elderly neighbors through the civic association's social media page.

They are checking in with their elderly neighbors, running their errands, picking up their medication and even walking their dogs.
"This is important because it empowers yourselves. As City Islanders we have always taken pride as being empowered and helping our neighbors is the same way as helping ourselves,” said Stanton.
"Every other small business on City Island should step in and provide food, whatever is needed for them,” said resident Anthony Dangelo.
The Boy Scouts are also lending a hand to assist seniors on City Island. They tell News 12 it's all small acts of kindness to help keep seniors safe against the virus.
