Thousands of uniformed officers gathered to say goodbye on Friday to FDNY Lt. Brian Sullivan.
A funeral for Sullivan was held at Sacred Heart Church in Monroe in Orange County. FDNY members were part of the procession.
Sullivan, who was 54 years old, suffered a fatal heart attack Saturday at Orange Regional Medical Center after working a 24-hour shift in the Bronx. Officials say he complained of chest pain while working his final shift, which means his death is considered a line-of-duty fatality.
The lieutenant served the FDNY for 27 years and leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
High emotions combined with high heat caused several people to faint during the service – including one member of Lt. Sullivan's 41st squad. That firefighter was rushed to Orange County Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
