Thousands of Bronx residents are on the run Saturday to stomp out cancer.
The ninth annual Damon Runyon 5K is being held at Yankee Stadium.
Organizers say they are dedicated to raising money for cancer research and funding young scientists so they have the tools they need to cure the disease.
Since 2009, the event has raised nearly $4.5 million for cancer research. The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation has funded nearly 3,600 scientists, including 12 Nobel Prize winners.
The foundation is named after Damon Runyon, an iconic sportswriter who died from throat cancer in 1946.
