Survivors of 9/11, families of fallen heroes and others came out to the annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk in New York City.

The event honors the lives lost 20 years ago on Sept. 11, 2001.

The race is specifically dedicated to Firefighter Stephen Siller who exited his fire truck and ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel straight toward the Twin Towers to help as the country was under attack.

The race traces Siller’s steps as he ran with 60 pounds of his fire gear on his back through the tunnel.

Cait Leavey lost her father on 9/11 and says she comes out each to honor his legacy.

“I know this is something that he would love to do,” Leavey says. “He called New York City his playground so we love doing this because it’s a great way to honor his memory.”

Siller’s family has raised over $250 million since 9/11 to support first responders, veterans and their families.
