TSA officials are encouraging those without a Real ID to get one before Feb. 1 or face a $45 fee.
News 12 spoke with TSA agents at LaGuardia Airport who say travelers should leave for the airport earlier than normal during the busy holiday travel season.
Officials say once at the security check point, be sure to have a Real ID or passport handy. There will be a $45 fee for those who do not have a Real ID starting Feb. 1.
“The idea is not to collect the money for the TSA. The idea is to encourage people to spend that money at your local DMV, get your Real ID, and the process will be so much quicker for you,” said John Essig, Federal Security Directory TSA, Laguardia Airport.
Agents are suggesting you get the Real ID ahead of the holidays to make travel plans as smooth as possible.
