Thanks for joining us here on mornings on news 12 on a Friday, December 1st. I'm m mad and I'm Simon Choudry. So we've been talking about the rain. Will it affect our weekend plans? Let's check in with storm watch team. Meteorologist, Alex Calam. Not a bad start to December temperature wise though. Now it's true. It is cold out there this morning in the mid twenties for North Jersey, interior parts of the state only in the twenties, but we are all warming up very quickly. I want to take you to one of the cooler spots. Somerset County is sitting in the mid twenties right now. At Best Rocky Hill is 30. So you definitely need to jack it early but you don't get by mid morning, at least not the heavy jacket. You're sitting in the mid forties. The wind is very calm today but clouds are building and we have a chance for rain. It is after all the first day of December and on average temperatures are right around 49. So this is just about right for this time of the year. But by the end of the month, we go down to 41 for your average morning temperature on average by the end of the month, 28. And yeah, December typically is when we see our first snow of the season last year though. We didn't see our first inch of snow until February this weekend. We're just talking plain old rain and there could be plenty of it on Sunday. Saturday looks dry and cloudy and mild coming up. We'll show you what those numbers look like. Alex. What's going on inside there, who need to know? All right, but what's going on in the weather department? We have rain. I mean, there, office parties tonight, right? So you will want the umbrellas heading out and about for evening plans. Best chance is going to be during the evening commute between three and eight. You can see pretty much how a lot of us start to see the rain after three or four. Best chance is going to be around six or seven. So you'll have to tap those windshield wipers a little bit, but it quickly ramps off by eight or nine o'clock. We're more or less dry and the rest of the evening looks fine. It just got to have the umbrellas for the early part of the evening, but it's not the only time we're going to see rain this weekend. A little bit of a break expected tomorrow and honestly go outside. Enjoy 60 degrees because we might not see 60 degrees any more in 2023. That's right because of course, things are going to be cooling on down. Enjoy tomorrow because it'll start to rain again on Sunday. It'll also be quite a bit cooler, only lower fifties. So let's take a look at that future cast for Sunday starts off dry. So heading over to let's say church in the morning, you're fine. But by about 11 a.m. we will see a couple of showers moving on in. So by brunch time, you will want to move those brunch and lunch plans inside, it'll become a little bit of a heavier rain into the afternoon. Notice some of the oranges right there over park slope as well as Gowanus down towards Bath Beach. We are going to see quite a bit of rain for the afternoon hours. It's a quick hit though by seven or eight to on Sunday evening, we're pretty much clearing out of the rain and then into Monday morning, maybe a lingering shower is expected. So let's take a look at that 10 day forecast. What you're going to see is again a little bit of a temperature roller coaster up to 60 tomorrow. Then we have that yellow highlight. That means rain is looking likely and it could be a little bit more significant. A little bit left over Monday. Then it gets a lot colder. Take a look by middle of next week. We're looking at middle twenties.

Rain drops today. Meteorologist Matt Hammer filling us in on that forecast. Yeah, just a couple of light showers really around after one o'clock this afternoon through about six or seven this evening. So that's where we start off with on the futurecast. Really nice morning this morning, chilly temperatures will get up into the upper forties to near 50 though into the afternoon under mostly cloudy skies by late morning and early afternoon today. So the spotty light areas of green arrive after one o'clock this afternoon, steadier rain will be missing us to the north and west. But you will have the need the at times during the afternoon and early evening with just these occasional light spotty showers. The best chance for Westchester and Rockland to see these showers is actually after four o'clock and through about six o'clock or so this evening, then after seven this evening, completely dry, mostly cloudy. There just can be a little bit of some fog development overnight into early tomorrow. I do expect to see some breaks of sunshine tomorrow, but clouds certainly should win out throughout the day. Highs will jump well into the fifties briefly into the early afternoon. And I just want to extend this out into Sunday because there are some changes for Sunday, not necessarily looking at flooding or anything like that just yet. But after a dry, early morning on Sunday, we will likely have a round of steadier rain moving in for the afternoon and for the evening hours on Sunday, drying out in time for the morning commute on Monday. So we just want to keep an eye on that for you as we go throughout the weekend today. Kind of an eye roll day. It starts off great, but it ends up being a little bit unsettled with a few of those spotty afternoon and early evening rain showers before just drier, mostly cloudy conditions kind of remain for the overnight with some patchy fog. So just pay attention to visibility overnight, you might have to slow down a little bit into very early tomorrow morning for some areas of scattered fog highs tomorrow. Well into the fifties, a stray Sprinkle possible in the afternoon and evening. But most of the day, dry clouds and little hints of sunshine. Tomorrow is easily the better half of the weekend before that chance at steadier afternoon, evening rain on Sunday, most of next week looks dry at this point, but turning colder by Tuesday with highs in the lower forties, it looks like we'll stay in the forties from Tuesday and through next weekend just could be some more wet weather by next Friday.

Here previewing the 27th annual Dickens Festival inside the Port Village Community Center. It is such a great event this weekend and there are so many great events this weekend as the first weekend really of the holiday season kicks off. So let's get to Rich Hoffman to see what the weather is going to be like. A little bit of wet weather out there. Rich. Yeah, we're going to be watching that wet weather in Port Jefferson this weekend also from Babylon, the Riverhead to Hempstead. Some showers coming in this evening, hyperlocal high today of 53 degrees. Our morning hours dry with some sunshine. And this afternoon here come the clouds and that wet weather and it's kind of a 5050 weekend. So if you are headed towards Port Jeff right now, Saturday is the better day. Kind of mostly cloudy, maybe a little drizzle and fog in the morning. Look at that temperature of 56 degrees. Then on Sunday, the rain comes in, it's cloudy. Some of that rain could be kind of steady during the afternoon hours with a temperature around 52 degrees. So one day is dry, one day is going to be a little bit more wet and you can see this morning we've had some sunshine, clouds are on the increase. Here comes our wet weather, low pressure system moving in and that's why we'll see these showers towards this evening showers developing from five pm to 8 p.m. The wet weather is there for tonight. So any evening plans will be a little bit wet. Then overnight kind of some drizzle and fog again, your Saturday is mainly gonna be dry coming in. There may be a little patchy drizzle and then going to Sunday, we do watch some wet weather. Highs are in the fifties for today. Tracking those evening showers, wet weather is with us tonight. Lows are in the forties and then looking at that extended forecast, 56 dries Saturday, some drizzle Sunday rain in the afternoon, most of next week looks nice and kind of chilly for the start of Hanukkah.

Just Alan knows if we got some rain headed our way for this first day of December. Yeah, not a lot, but enough that it's going to cause a little bit of an inconvenience there for the evening commute. Take a look at the exact timing here, hour by hour. You're going to notice that the odds go up after three o'clock. So for that evening commute, 456, you're going to see some of these showers could be that little bit of a steadier burst here 6 to 7 p.m. and then it tails off by nine o'clock. We're pretty much done with the rain. That's good. But then for the weekend, maybe not the best looking weekend, but salvaging Saturday, Saturday, how about 60? I'm pushing up the high because I have a feeling we're going to get a couple of peaks of sunshine and that's going to allow the temperatures to soar enjoy tomorrow outside while you can because the rain returns on Sunday, it will also be cooler. It'll be a little bit on the dreary side. So let's take a look at that Sunday future cast because Saturday, I don't have much to show you because it's going to be dry. It's going to be a mix of sun and clouds for Sunday. However sure it starts off dry at about 7 a.m. But we're going to notice showers moving in from the south and west by the afternoon. Here we go by 11 a.m. Brunch plans move them inside because there will already be showers. This looks to be a little bit steadier of a rain compared to today's rain. Notice already some of the yellows on the feature cast around two o'clock. Then later on into the afternoon, even some orange, around 4 to 5 o'clock, there's a pocket of moderate to maybe heavy rain. That's possible that's going to move quickly through. So by the evening hours things start tapering off and Monday morning, we might have a lingering shower or two. But aside from that, we're pretty much smooth sailing, aside from today's showers and Sunday showers, I have that yellow highlight just so that, you know, that Sunday looks to be a little bit messy, messy Sunday, but Saturday is beautiful. Ok. I guess we got to take what we can get, salvage a little bit of the, it's better than the teens.

And if you are gonna be on the roads this weekend, you're probably gonna be dealing with some wet weather big time. So if you're doing some traveling and then on the way back for that Sunday night, Sunday night commute could be a little bit of a doozy. But listen, enjoy Saturday. Saturday looks good. It's gonna be nice. It's gonna be mild. Temperatures are gonna be in the mid FF grant it, we're gonna work with a little more cloud cover than we will sunshine for your Saturday. I like it. I think you're gonna like it too. Certainly. When you think of Sunday's forecast right where we are gonna see some steady rain into the mix, 50 degrees. What we're looking at for today again, temperatures finally on the other side of average, we've kind of had a bit of a chilly week. Certainly. If you think back to midweek it was bitter bite with that cold air. Let's fast forward into our afternoon. We're gonna see those numbers into the mid to upper forties. We're gonna work with a few showers up north at first and then as we head to the commute home, 567 o'clock. We're dealing with some steady rain in the mix, but look what happens by around 910. We're drying out nicely while we could see some patchy fog develop for the early parts of your Saturday morning. Not all too bad numbers into the upper thirties, lower forties. Remember we're staying dry. We may see some pokes of sunshine, but just a reminder, it's gonna be mainly gray as we work our way through our Saturday. But look at some of these numbers 54 for Redding Newtown, 51 for Weston, 48 for Bridgeport. Even up north Torrington, Cornwall, Goshen, Washington Litchfield, we'll all see numbers into the lower fifties transition into Sunday. Sunday is not all too bad of a start gray. A lot of cloud cover, but numbers are into the forties. Not quite of a chilly start. If you maybe just walking the dog for the early part of Sunday morning, late morning into the afternoon, we're gonna see some steady rain pull in. It's a little bit different than a little bit of rain we'll get into for later on today, Sunday. We're work working with some heavy rain and some steady showers. Certainly as we push forward into the afternoon and evening. So again, that commute home, maybe from this weekend, heading into your Sunday night, it's gonna be a little bit of a doze. We do find those showers to kind of taper off by the time we head into our overnight to work into Monday as far as rainfall totals 1/10 to a quarter of an inch for your Friday later on today, nothing for Saturday. And then we're gonna add about another inch to the mix by the time we finish up our Sunday and again, working our way into our Monday, still holding on to mild temperatures in the lower fifties mark.
