A series of muggings have occurred around the trails of the Old Croton Aqueduct, Putnam Greenway and near the Dickson Avenue Golf House, the Van Courtland Park Alliance says.
Locals who use those trails told News 12 they usually feel safe while walking through those areas. But now they say they will be on high alert as they get their daily steps in.
The Van Courtland Park Alliance says there are ways to stay safe when walking in the park. Those include keeping valuables at home, walking with a group of people in the early mornings or late at night, being aware of your surroundings, not wearing headphones and keeping your phone out of sight.
The NYPD is looking into muggings. According to NYPD crime stats, robberies were up 30% across the city and .9% in the Bronx during 2023.
News 12's Brittany Cadet visited the area on Sunday.
