Family and friends came together Friday night to honor the life of a teen who was killed in a school stabbing last week.
Dozens of classmates and loved ones gathered inside the apartment building where Matthew McCree lived and spoke about the late 15-year-old.
McCree was fatally stabbed last week inside the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation after investigators say Abel Cedeno, 18, brought a switchblade to school and stabbed him and 16-year-old Ariane Laboy, who has since been released from a hospital.
One of many grieving and questioning the incident is McCree’s mother, who is seeking answers for how this happened in a classroom.
The family and attorney Sandy Rubenstein say they will address those issues after McCree’s funeral next week.
"There's serious issues involving the Department of Education’s liability in the school,” says Rubenstein. “Eighty percent [of] teachers and 45 percent [of] students didn't feel safe. There was harassment complaints in this school."
