A man who is accused of detonating an explosive device under a car faced a judge Friday.
Richard Laugel informed the judge that he won't be testifying before a grand jury. The veteran of the recent conflict in Iraq is accused of turning two aerosol cans into an explosive weapon.
Prosecutors said Laugel placed the devices under the car of Antonio Guerrero in Pelham Bay. Guerrero managed to escape his burning vehicle unharmed. Authorities haven't said what the motive was for Laugel's alleged acts.
Laugel faces charges of attempted murder, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and arson for the March 2 explosion.
He is due back in court April 14.
