Dozens at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint James participated in a traditional procession today to mark Good Friday, the day many Christians observe as the day Jesus died on the cross.
Hundreds of people come out every year on Good Friday to take part in the Way of the Cross procession.
The day started with a ceremony before parishioners walked from the cathedral across the Brooklyn Bridge, stopping at City Hall and making their way to St. Andrews church in lower Manhattan. At each stop, parishioners read scriptures and sung hymns.
Bishop Robert Brennan says the walk is a spiritual journey with Jesus as they imitate the steps he took in his final hours before dying on the cross.
Services continue through the weekend leading up to Easter on Sunday. Parishioners will meet at the church again for Sunday Mass.
