6ds agoIf you grew up in the Bronx or happen to walk by Fordham Plaza, then you know that for several years, it has been considered a staple for the Bronx.
Now, community members are calling on the city's Department of Transportation to take action after kiosks on site remain closed and vendors voice safety concerns.
"We have human waste, homeless people, trash, graffiti, broken windows and broken seating," said Community Board 6 member Rafael Moure-Punnett.
This also comes less than a week after the Bronx Night Market announced it will no longer be hosting events at Fordham Plaza after a seven-year run. It is citing quality of life issues at the plaza as one of its main concerns.
"We see it over and over again, people take the contract they either never start because the plaza is a mess, or they do it for some time and they realize we're on our own here," said Moure-Punnett.
News 12 reached out to the DOT, which is in charge of Fordham Plaza, and it said it will be discussing the matter with stakeholders this week.
News 12 also reached out to the city's Comptroller's Office and has not heard back yet.
