A Bushwick ice cream shop is open and ready to serve high quality and unique flavors, safely.
Ollie’s Ice Cream + Stuff remained open during the coronavirus pandemic and is celebrating its one-year anniversary in business.
Owner Eric Kyriakopoulos says they are still serving ice cream but only in cups for now.
“I ask my staff that, and they say I don’t feel comfortable handing someone a cone. And on the other end, do you feel physically comfortable eating something someone touched?” said Kyriakopoulos.
He says he is doing whatever he can to make staff and customers comfortable during this time. Two customers are allowed in the store at a time, and no cash or cones will be accepted or offered.
They are still operating on weekdays from 5 to 10 p.m. and on weekends from 2 to 10 p.m.
“It’s so hot, and we have to get the kids out a little bit so this is a good little activity for us,” said customer Amy Burrous.
The Irving Avenue shop offers some fun flavors like red velvet cake and creamsicle, and the owner is thanking customers for still coming out for scoops--despite being quarantined at home.
“Everyone has two to three or four roommates, so I think we saw that orders were bigger,” said Kyriahopoulos.
Ollie’s is only making 50% of its anticipated sales for this summer, but the owner is optimistic that customers will continue to stop by for a refreshing treat with safety protocols in place.
“So far so good, I mean everyone is wearing masks, and we’re just going to stay outside,” said Burrous.
Customers are not allowed to eat inside, but benches are located outside the shop.
