New information has come to light about Gabby Petito's fiancé, Brian Laundrie, whom police have named a person of interest in her disappearance.
Laudrie is a native Long Islander, like Petito.
"We haven't been able to talk to him. I wish I could talk to him," said Brian's sister, Cassie Laundrie, during a television interview.
Brian Laundrie has been silent as authorities say he's being looked at as a person of interest in Gabby Petito's disappearance.
"All I want is for her to come home safe and sound and this to be just a big misunderstanding," Cassie Laundrie said. "I've cooperated every way that I can. I wish I had information where I would give more - this is all I have, this I gave to the police."
Both Brian Laundrie and Gabby Petito graduated from Bayport Blue Point High School on Long Island.
A yearbook from the local library shows Laundrie graduated in 2016 and Petito in 2017. But there are not many pictures or clues as to who he is.
News 12 Long Island ran into some people who said they graduated with Laundrie, but they didn't want to go on camera because many of them said that they didn't know him too well. However, they described him as a nice but quiet kid who preferred art over sports.
On Laundrie's Instagram page, pictures from last year show what appears to be his art as well as photos that documents his recent trip with Gabby. On his last post, dated Aug. 13, there are thousands of comments demanding answers as to where Petito is.
One person claiming to have gone to school with Laundrie said, "I don't remember ever seeing him be the aggressor in any situation... He almost always had a smile on his face whether it was in the classroom, lunch, hallways, etc." That person described him as fairly quiet.
Meanwhile, Laundrie's sister described him as someone who has always done the right thing.
"He's a wonderful uncle, he's always been there when I need him, he's been there every time Gabby has needed him," Cassie Laundrie said.
Laundrie has invoked his Fifth Amendment right, despite calls for him to speak as to where Gabby might be.
