A 17-year-old boy was pronounced dead early Saturday after officers with the Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department fired their weapons during what authorities described as a "critical incident."

New York State Police said they were called to assist following the incident near East Main Street and Market Street in the village.

According to investigators, officers fired their weapons during the encounter. Additional details about the circumstances that led up to the shooting were not immediately released.
