Advocates rallied in the rain Monday in Hauppauge, calling on state lawmakers to pass a trio of bills that would affect criminal sentencing.
The Second Look Act would let judges revisit past sentences that some may call excessive.
The Earned Time Act would make it easier for those incarcerated to shorten their sentence based on good behavior.
The Marvin Mayfield Act would remove mandatory minimum sentences.
However, victims' families believe its a bad idea, and that the sentence is the only form of justice some of them receive.
