The American Kennel Club is warning dog owners this morning to keep an eye on their pets.
The club says dognappings are up 40% from last year, and thieves are looking for specific breeds.
The breeds most taken are French Bulldogs, Yorkshire Terries, and Labrador Retrievers.
Recently many dognappings have been taking place on Long Island.
Last month, seven French bulldogs were taken from a home in Shirley.
The owner tells News 12 that only one of those dogs has been found.
