Bishop John Jenik of Our Lady of Refuge in the Bronx got to meet Pope Francis during his visit to New York last week.
Jenik was at St. Patrick's Cathedral for the pope's vespers on Thursday. He got to say a few words to the pope and received a handshake.
Jenik said it was the most memorable moment of his 45 years in the Catholic church.
"It was exceptional to see him there, right in front of you," said Jenik. "A bit surreal, I would've never thought that that would happen in my life."
Chuchgoers who have been going to Our Lady of Refuge said they were very proud to see Jenik representing their parish.
