The Bronx County Historical Society held a celebration Friday in honor of Edgar Allen Poe’s 215th birthday.
Even 175 years after his death, "The Tell Tale Heart" is one of Poe’s most famous short stories and is still revered as a historical literary piece.
“The great genius of American literature, the master of the story and the horror story” is how Roger McCormack, director of education at the Bronx County Historical Society, describes the late Poe.
While there was no cake or candles for Poe’s birthday, those present embodied his spirit in Fordham, where the poet lived for the last four years of his life. The doors to Poe Cottage were open all day to honor the famous poet.
