A Bronx man accused of murder says he's eager to prove his innocence after spending three years awaiting trial on Rikers Island and then finding himself unexpectedly released from custody.
A judge Wednesday set a trial date for Brian Solano in the 2014 shooting death of Willie Nora.
Solano was in custody until three months ago, when he says jail guards told him he could go.
"They came to my cell and said pack up, go home," he says. "I said, what do you mean?"
He says he still doesn't know why authorities released him, but he says it might be because of what his private investigator found.
Manuel Gomez, the investigator, says he turned over material to the Bronx District Attorney's Office four days before Solano's release.
"They knew he was innocent," Gomez says. "It took three years, but I found evidence."
