Former President Joe Biden awarded honors to more than 300 professors and mentors across the country in science and mathematics.

Dr. Eugene Mananga, a physics and nuclear medicine professor at Bronx Community College, made the list.

He was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring, the highest honor for an educator.

Mananga has decades of education and teaching experience in the science field.

After landing in Ivy League schools such as Harvard and Princeton, Mananga said he was called to give back.

"I said 'Let me give back to my community to help students that are underrepresented in science'", said Mananga.

He has worked at BCC for a decade.

Mananga attributes his success to his mentors who inspired him to make the same impact on students he now works with.

The award provides a signed certificate from the president and a $10,000 check. Dr. Mananga said it's not about the money.

"A leader is not supposed to serve himself... but serve others. And when you serve other's you don't expect to be millionaire or billionaire!" he said.

Mananga will be flown down to Washington, D.C. to receive the award. The date is to be determined.
