Bronx woman accused of beating her hospital roommate charged with manslaughter

A Bronx woman accused of beating her hospital roommate to death now facing charges.

Racquel Haughton, 44, is now facing manslaughter and assault charges after prosecutors say she pummeled the woman who was sharing the same hospital room.

Haughton faced a grand jury Wednesday, after police alleged she struck 55-year-old Cynthia Vann in the head multiple times while she was sleeping.

According to the investigation, on Sept. 10, Haughton was sharing a room Vann. Officials say the attack was so severe that it sent Vann into a coma. Van died nearly three weeks later.

Haughton is due back in court on Feb. 25. If she’s found guilty, the 44-year-old can face up to 25 years in prison.
