News 12 is highlighting a Bronx woman who has devoted her career to serving disadvantaged children by starting own organization that gives students the resources they need to be successful.
For Shanequa Moore, bringing resources to children in underserved communities is more than a passion. Founding her organization I'RAISE Girls & Boys International Corporation back in 2012, Moore is hoping to foster success in youth bringing them programs from STEM to recreation and counseling services.
"I just wanted to start something in the community that I knew was missing," she says. "In under-resourced communities, Black communities - there are not enough programs that actually care and are effective and invested in the kids' well-being and in their future success."
She first launched the program in the Bronx helping at-risk youth living in the city's housing authority.
She quickly decided to bring the organization to public schools in the Bronx and Brooklyn, hoping to have a larger impact on students.
P.S. 178 in Brownsville is one of the participating schools where the organization serves nearly a hundred students.
Moore is set on making a difference in the lives of the youth, one student at a time and breaking down barriers so they can thrive.
