Residents at the Butler Houses in Claremont Village were surprised Tuesday to see that their broken mailboxes were being fixed.
Over 30 tenants said they had been telling management about their broken mailboxes since September. Some said they had to walk four blocks to get to the nearest post office on East 167th Street.
They said the mailboxes were being fixed only after they reached out to News 12 The Bronx about the situation.
The New York City Department of Housing says the mailboxes had been out of service since last Sunday, but tenants say it was much longer than that.
The agency adds that repairs required the expertise of a vendor.
