The new laws are designed to overhaul the current system, allowing people to get the housing they need by abolishing the rule that requires people to enter the shelter system before applying.

27ds agoNew York City Council on Wednesday announced four new laws to help people access housing easier.
The new laws are designed to overhaul the current system, allowing people to get the housing they need by abolishing the rule that requires people to enter the shelter system before applying.
City Council passed these bills last summer, but Mayor Eric Adams vetoed them. The council voted last July to override that veto.
The new laws are set to take effect next Tuesday.
