The Department of Justice has designated New York City, Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington as jurisdictions permitting violence and destruction of property.
The Department of Justice says it is continuing to work to identify jurisdictions that meet the criteria set out in President Trump’s Memorandum and will periodically update the list of selected jurisdictions as required therein.
Trump’s memorandum that was posted on Sept. 2 directs federal agencies to minimize funding for designated cities.
The Justice Department released a list of reason New York City was listed. It includes shootings on the rise in the city, $1 billion cut from the NYPD FY21 budget and the rejection of law enforcement support by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio.
