The city will begin issuing violations to drivers who drive illegally in designated Q44 route lanes.

The Department of Transportation says it will begin issuing bus lane camera violations along the Q44 Flushing-Jamaica Select Bus Service route begining in the Bronx and Queens starting today.

Officials say they have already been issuing warnings to motorists along seven other bus lanes across the city for more than 60 days. 

The DOT says buses in New York City carry over 2.5 million riders each day, and automated camera enforcement of bus lanes is a critical way to keep New Yorkers moving.

They say the state authorization allows the expansion of the city's bus lane camera program to 16 total routes.

The DOT says it also works with the NYPD to enforce bus lanes citywide through traditional methods.

Drivers who drive or stand in the bus lane during designated hours will receive a $115 violation, according to the DOT. Drivers are also encouraged to review video of their violations on the DOT website in order to appeal the violation.
