The NYPD is searching for a faceless gunman after a 42-year-old man was shot in broad daylight along East 223rd Street — with new surveillance video capturing the moment shots rang out on a quiet holiday afternoon while children were home from school.
Police say the shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. near East 223rd Street, between White Plains Road and Barnes Avenue. Investigators tell News 12 there is currently no description of the suspect.
Surveillance video captures the sounds of gunshots — with a total of 10 shots fired in quick bursts. Moments later, two people can be seen running away from the area, shouting.
Officers rushed to the scene and found a 42-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his left forearm. Yellow police tape and orange evidence cones stretched across the block as paramedics transported the victim to the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
Neighbors say the shooting has left them shaken — especially with children nearby at the time.
“It’s heartbreaking. It’s heart-wrenching," said Tanesha, a Wakefield resident. "It’s really getting ridiculous with the shooting that’s going on. And, you know, having kids — especially a mom of three — something really needs to be done.”
