The former president of Stamford's NAACP chapter has died after contracting coronavirus.
News 12 Connecticut's Gwen Edwards had Jack Bryant on as a frequent guest on "Our Lives" during his 10 years as president of the Stamford NAACP.
Bryant was also a deacon at his church and an active member of the Stamford Board of Education.
Mayor David Martin says even when they didn't see eye to eye, Bryant was a pleasure to work with.
Current Stamford NAACP President Guy Fortt says his predecessor always led by example.
"He would say he had a passion to speak for the people who didn't have a voice," said Fortt.
Friends say Bryant's commitment lasted to the end of his life. Last month, he was handing out meals to Stamford students who can no longer depend on school lunches.
Bryant also took high school students on a tour of historically black colleges every April.
