Gov. Cuomo: COVID cluster positivity rates rise; new app to give virus exposure alerts
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said during a conference call Thursday that the hotspot ZIP codes where COVID-19 cases are spikes will require “full attention” and enforcement of mask wearing.
He said that the positivity rate in those communities – mostly in Rockland, Orange and Brooklyn – went from 5.5% to 6.5%.
“A cluster today can become community spread tomorrow,” the governor repeated during the call.
Gov. Cuomo also announced the launch of 'COVID Alert NY' - an app that will alert users if they were in contact with someone who has COVID-19.
He explained that the app works through cellular data, but does not track or collect private information. It launched Thursday and now available in app stores.
