The subway station at East 149th Street and Grand Concourse is finally getting elevator access after three years of petitions from commuters.
The MTA has agreed to invest $45 million at the station, which hasn't had a functional elevator for almost 40 years.
The project will renovate a lift on one side of the street and install a new one on the other, so riders won't have to cross the heavily trafficked street.
Straphangers have long sought alternative access to the platform, which is two stories underground.
The station serves Hostos Community College and the surrounding neighborhood.
