Our very wet Tuesday is starting to dry out from west to east this evening and the wind is picking up as expected, too. Spotty lighter rain showers can linger through mid-evening and areas of scattered minor flooding will linger through the first part of tonight. Please slow down when driving, especially since standing water can be more difficult to see when it is dark.
The wind gusting between around 20 to 35 mph this evening is partly a good thing. It will help to start to dry the ground up. The problem into Wednesday morning is that any standing water or untreated wet surfaces that do not completely dry up can become icy for the early morning hours of Wednesday.
Use caution walking or driving in case you do have some patchy black ice near you for the start of the morning commute Wednesday.
Wednesday and Thursday will be breezy at times, quite cold and dry other than a passing sprinkle or flurry on Thursday afternoon.
Our coldest air this week will be Thursday night into Friday. There is also still a slight chance for mixed light snow and rain showers between Friday evening and Saturday morning.
A light coating of snow cannot be ruled out just yet for Friday evening. Better information on this chance will arrive Wednesday for Long Island. There is still about equal chance as of this evening of it remaining mostly dry.
Next week looks unsettled at this time for Tuesday through the end of the week with a few scattered chances for mixed rain and snow showers.
Have a great night!
