Jacobi Medical Center unveiled its new Pulmonary Embolism Response team Tuesday.
Known as PERT, it was created to deal with dangerous blood clots and blockages, officials say. Such issues often go untreated and can result in death.
Doctors at Jacobi say PERT is designed to identify patients who need advanced treatment for blood clots, which was the case for 47-year-old Ingrid Morrison.
Morrison says she was having trouble breathing before her daughter found her unconscious on the floor last year. She was brought to Jacobi Medical Center, where specialists found two large blood clots near her lungs.
Morrison ended up staying in the hospital for five days and now has routine follow-up visits.
The hospital says it has treated about 60 patients using a faster, specialized approach.
