A bakery that has been open in Keansburg for 85 years is set to close, unless a new owner can be found.
Owner Sal Giovine says that he has gotten too old to continue running the bakery. Giovine became the bakery’s second owner when he bought it 16 years ago.
“My hours are 13-14 hours a day. At my age, I can’t do this no more,” he says. It’s time for me… to hang up the gloves.”
Giovine says that he would be willing to sell the bakery if a new buyer came along, but he says that anyone who does wish to buy the bakery cannot change the recipe of the black and white cookie.
“I will not let him change anything. People come for those specialties and you have to keep up the tradition,” Giovine says.
A closing date has not yet been set. The owner says that anyone interested in taking over the bakery should stop by during business hours.
