There has been a 27 percent decrease in citywide evictions since 2013, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio's office.
That number dropped by 5 percent alone in 2017, representing more than 3,000 New Yorkers who were able to stay in their homes.
The mayor credits the change with last year's Universal Access Law, providing an investment in legal assistance for low-income residents who would not otherwise be able to defend themselves against eviction.
According to the mayor's office, just over 21,000 people were evicted across all five New York City boroughs in 2017.
About 1,000 more people were evicted in 2016, compared to nearly 29,000 New Yorkers evicted in 2013.
