The Fourth of July means fireworks and barbecuing, but are the celebrations bad for our parks? Some Bronx residents aren't happy about what's been left behind.
If you take a walk through Pelham Parkway Monday, it's not just litter you'll see. You'll find damage to the area as well.
The green space was littered with paper tubes, boxes, containers, confetti and more. Fireworks that have been found around the park are not legal in the city, and you actually cannot barbecue in Pelham Parkway at all.
An environmental group says Sunday's celebrations could permanently damage the nature in the parkway and around the city.
Volunteers say they want the Parks Department to better enforce park rules and protect their valuable spaces.
