The New York Blood Center and the Sickle Cell Empowerment Initiative have teamed up to hold a blood drive Saturday in Bed-Stuy.
The event will take place at Stephen Decatur Middle School on Macdonough Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
They say the goal is to get 60 participants to donate, which would each save up to three lives. They also hope to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation, especially in communities affected by sickle cell disease.
