The city is taking another step in its effort to make streets cleaner.
As of Monday, all buildings with up to nine residential units are now required to use approved bins with secured bins to set the trash out. They'll replace the large bags on sidewalks, which neighbors say often smell bad and increase the rodents in the area.
"Then sometimes it gets piled up and then it gets into the sidewalk, and people have to walk around or go somewhere else. It's just an inconvenience for people," said one person.
The Department of Sanitation will be issuing warnings to buildings not in compliance with the new bin requirement between now and Sept. 7, with full enforcement starting Sept. 8.
The city is also planning to enforce similar rules at larger buildings soon.
