Police say four people are under arrest for a Thursday shooting that left two people injured in Coney Island.
Detectives say a 22-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were shot on Mermaid Avenue.
Police say the four arrested are facing charges of attempted murder, gun possession and reckless driving.
Police say those four people are not from Coney Island, which some local leaders say is a sign of progress.
NYPD data shows that Coney Island went without a single shooting for close to 300 days. That streak, however, ended in October when two teens were shot just a few blocks away from the scene of the recent shooting.
Anti-violence organizations say the recent shootings highlight the importance of community support.
While the arrests bring some relief to the community, leaders say they're focused on ensuring that these recent shootings don't overshadow the progress they've made.
The four suspects are expected to be arraigned in court by Saturday.
News 12 reached out to NYPD about plans to increase patrols in the area but had yet to hear back as of Friday evening.
