NYPD: 4 bags of live marijuana trees seized from Belmont apartment following fire call

Police confirm they seized four bags of live marijuana trees from a Belmont apartment where a small fire started.
Authorities say there was more than a dozen empty pots on the ground debris left over from the fire after they responded to the area at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Fire officials responded to the fire call and the NYPD were called to the scene when large marijuana plants in the home were discovered.
At this time, police say the fire appears to have been an electrical fire but that investigation is still ongoing.
Approximately 20 to 30 marijuana plants were found at the scene. The FDNY says the fire started on the first floor. The plants were confiscated and vouchered by police.
Officials say it is legal to grow marijuana plants in your home in the state of New York. However, the limit is capped to six plants for personal use and a maximum of 12 plants per household, according to the Office of Cannabis Management.
At this time, no one is in custody and no injuries happened during the incident.
