A man riding his bike in Melrose Monday morning was struck by a car and is in critical condition, police say.
According to the NYPD, the bicyclist was hit at 158th Street and 3rd Avenue by a gray Nissan vehicle at around 3:30 a.m. The car then crashed into a row of parked cars.
The bike rider, who police say is between the ages of 50 and 60, was taken to the hospital with severe head trauma.
The 58-year-old female driver involved in the incident remained at the scene.
Police say they've haven't made any arrests.
City stats show four traffic-related injuries at the intersection last year. Residents in the area say they often see bicyclists in the busy area.
The crash happened right next to a bus stop and a basketball court where News 12 crews saw children playing.
