NYPD: Bicyclist struck by car in Melrose, in critical condition

The bike rider, who police say is between the ages of 50 and 60, was taken to the hospital with severe head trauma.

A man riding his bike in Melrose Monday morning was struck by a car and is in critical condition, police say.
According to the NYPD, the bicyclist was hit at 158th Street and 3rd Avenue by a gray Nissan vehicle at around 3:30 a.m. The car then crashed into a row of parked cars.
The bike rider, who police say is between the ages of 50 and 60, was taken to the hospital with severe head trauma.
The 58-year-old female driver involved in the incident remained at the scene.
Police say they've haven't made any arrests.
City stats show four traffic-related injuries at the intersection last year. Residents in the area say they often see bicyclists in the busy area.
The crash happened right next to a bus stop and a basketball court where News 12 crews saw children playing.
