The NYPD has deployed additional personnel and resources to predominantly Jewish neighborhoods like Crown Heights amid calls from a former Hamas leader for a day of action.
Multiple patrol cars and counterterrorism vans could be seen along Eastern Parkway Friday morning. The city says New Yorkers can expect increased security near schools, large gathering areas and Jewish houses of worship.
Out of an abundance of caution, five schools in the Brooklyn Diocese went remote today.
Residents in Crown Heights say they are trying to spread positivity amid the darkness. Some could be seen passing out prayer cards and tefillin to their neighbors.
"We as humans must add light to the darkness and don't underestimate what light does. It pushes away the darkness," said Mendel Meijers, a local photographer.
A caravan could also be seen driving down Eastern Parkway Friday morning playing music to spread cheer.
